IHEART comes to New Zealand

IHEART training has never been offered in Asia-Pacific. That’s about to change as the IHEART team prepares to travel to Wellington, New Zealand to run an Academy Level 1 Training Course for 15 facilitators.

The Course is being held in Wellington at Te Auaha, NZ Institute of Creativity. Once certified, the group will join forces with the other 300 IHEART facilitators who are working with young people in the UK, Europe, the United States, South Africa and the Middle East.

The idea of a training course based in New Zealand is the brainchild of Therese Boyle, currently the only qualified facilitator of IHEART in New Zealand.

“After completing the training, I have taken any opportunity to speak about IHEART and offered it to local schools for free, as I wanted to see for myself that the programme was effective. I am delighted that IHEART committed to coming out here to run the training. To know that this year we are rapidly increasing the number of certified facilitators feels very exciting for the mental health of our young people and I look forward to having colleagues to work with!”

Zia Brooks, Head of Schools and Teacher Training, and John Scott, Senior Trainer and faculty member of the IHEART Academy, will be delivering the course, starting in mid-February. “We are delighted at the response from trainees in New Zealand who are passionate about changing the script for how we talk about mental health with young people,” says Zia. “It is exciting to see the IHEART programme take root in a new part of the world and we are looking forward to arriving soon to deliver the training.”
