I wanted to take the time to write and express just how fantastic your team have been here at Welldon Park Primary School over the last 10 weeks. I had the pleasure to watch one of the sessions last week and the impact of the work has been incredible. In the short time I was able to spend within a class, I witnessed:
– A young girl, who I have not heard speak to an adult in 18 months, giving a profound response on why bullies do not define who you are.
– A class of children who 18 months ago could barely hold a conversation with a teacher, have a 45 minute discussion and debate incorporating the words of Nelson Mandela, the poem Invictus and a level of intellectual challenge far beyond what I could have imagined last year.
– First class facilitation and discussion at all times from the team, even in the face of challenging behaviour.
At times during the lesson I watched, I had goose bumps. The family nature and values of IHEART stand out a mile away. And the staff feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with the teachers stating it is a great start to their week – not just for the children!
Finally, I wanted to briefly share something I saw at play time recently: One of the most behaviourally challenging pupils I have taught in the decade unexpectedly de-escalated from the point of violence because of the lessons he had learned on the ‘Power of Thought’. This alone was a remarkable breakthrough. Our whole-hearted thanks for all the IHEART team has achieved.
